What is Clomid?
Clomid is used for treating infertility in women. It works by increasing hormone levels responsible for ovum release (ovulation). This medicine is not for women whose ovaries no longer release ovules. Before starting this medicine, it is highly recommended to consult a doctor.
Clomid is an antiestrogen of nonsteroidal structure. It inhibits binding of estradiol with receptors in hypothalamus thereby causing gonadotropin release. Clomid id used for ovulation stimulation in women with infertility caused by secondary hypo-ovarionism mainly associated with hypothalamic-pituitary dysfunctions and with some other types of infertility. Clomid is a peroral medication. It is important to keep to the dosage and dosing schedule prescribed by your doctor. Your dosage of Clomid depends on your health condition and your body reaction to the treatment. Do not change your dosage on your own. Your doctor may ask you to take your temperature and take ovulation tests while you use Clomid for.
Clomid may lead to reduction of breast milk. Consult your doctor before starting breastfeeding. Before starting Clomid, it is strongly recommended to take medical tests to make sure that you do not have the following conditions: malignant uterus tumors or mammary tumor, cysts, enlarged ovary, etc. Clomid is contraindicated for patients with the listed conditions. Before starting Clomid make sure that you have no other causes of infertility except problems with maturation of ovum. If you have any, have them treated and only after eliminating them start taking Clomid. It is also recommended to have ones liver examined to make sure it functions normally. During the whole period of therapy the patient should have her ovary condition examined.
A gynaecological examination should also be carried out before every course of treatment with Clomid to avoid abnormal enlargement of the ovary. If this happens to you, your doctor is likely to reduce your dosage and the duration of the therapy. If the maturation of the ovules occurs with low dose of Clomid, there is no sense in increasing it. If the ovulation does not occur after the first course of treatment, a higher dosage of the medicine is prescribed during the second five-day course (100 mg/day).You should undergo the second course no earlier than 30 days after the first course, and before starting the second course take a pregnancy course. The maximum allowed dose for Clomid is 100mg and the 5-day duration of the treatment course should not be exceeded.
